Creator and pioneer of Pilates, Joseph Pilates, suffered with asthma and many other ailments as a child.  As a young man, he was determined to create a means by which exercise could be used to fight ailments.  Joseph studied various exercise regimens to expand his knowledge base. He was intrigued by the concept of creating a balanced body, mind and spirit.
